THE Israeli community of Moshav Kanaf is tucked away on a southern Golan Heights ridge, 300 metres above sea level and affording outstanding views of the region.
It was founded in the mid-1980s and moved to a permanent site only some years later.
Nowadays, as the relentless Israeli summer heat intensifies, the local lavender plantations are in full bloom, permeating the air with the scent emanating from row upon row of the heavily fragrant and oh-so-colourful bushes of glorious, vibrant purple, literally creating an almost blinding purple haze — with medicinal, culinary and other properties no less.
