Debbie gets her teeth into Ruth’s moving Holocaust tale

TELLING HER STORY: Ruth with Debbie in 2009

HOLOCAUST educator Debbie Moss has published a children’s book about a young girl in a concentration camp to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

Angel’s Teeth is based on the true story of Ruth Matejovska, a Czech girl, who was an inmate of Terezin concentration camp when she was 11.

Ruth came from Slavkov, formerly Austerlitz, which has links with Nottingham Liberal Synagogue, as the shul uses a sefer Torah, which was rescued from the town after the Holocaust.

Stockport-born Debbie, who is married to the shul’s vice chairman Antony Moss, said: “I do a lot of work with the shul.

“They wanted to find out more about Torah scrolls that we used from the Czech Republic.

“These scrolls are read from at bar and bat mitzvot.

“My three children, two girls and a boy, read from it.”
