Honoured for fighting to stop killing of journalists

PROFESSOR Ivor Gaber, who received an OBE for promoting media freedom internationally in the King’s Birthday Honours, has had impressive careers in both journalism and academia.

He began his journalistic career as an ITV scriptwriter and producer and then was a member of the ITN planning team that launched Channel 4 News.

He followed this by becoming an investigative reporter for BBC’s Watchdog consumer programme.
