Ex-ambassador helping create next generation of diplomats

YITZHAK Eldan has travelled the world on behalf of the Israeli both as an ambassador and chief of protocol.

Now, as he turns 80, he is embarking on a new mission: educating the future global ambassadors of the Jewish people.

Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Eldan moved to Israel at the age of 12 with his brother as part of Bnei Akiva.

Their parents stayed behind.

Immediately taken in by a Polish family on a religious kibbutz, he became an honorary Ashkenazi.

To him this was important, as the racism that Mizrahim faced at the time was rampant, so being like the other boys — and more — was essential for his success.
