An Orthodox life that is fun and not built on fear

DOV Ber Cohen is the antithesis of what some people imagine an ultra-Orthodox rabbi to be — and that is just the way he likes it.

The London-raised 45-year-old is humorous, congenial and calm.

And the latter adjective is surely down to his six years living in Asia, where he immersed himself in eastern philosophy and tradition.

“The only ‘Jewish’ things I did were not to eat pig and refusing to visit a church with the Presbyterian football team I played for,” Dov Ber told me from Jerusalem, where he is a senior lecturer at educational organisation Aish HaTorah World Centre.

He is also the founder and director of Living in Tune: Authentic Jewish Mindfulness, which runs online Jewish mindfulness courses and in-person retreats.
