Jewish roots opened the door for Dave’s love of Eurovision

WHEN Mancunian Dave Goodman attended the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest as a fan, it was a dream come true.

Now though, it is business as usual for Dave as he will be attending this year’s edition as Eurovision’s digital and communications manager — a role he has held for four years. It will be his 18th appearance at the song contest, a love for which he puts down to his Jewish roots.

His maternal grandmother, Magda, who was Slovakian, arrived in the UK just before the start of the Second World War, while his dad’s family originated from Lithuania, coming to Manchester in the mid-1800s.
