GLASGOW DIARY
Tickets selling well for Israeli team in Glasgow

JNF KKL Scotland honorary president Stanley Lovatt was all excited on Tuesday night as Israel and Scotland were again paired in the draw for UEFA Nations League.

But his joy quickly faded when the date for the match in Glasgow was announced... Friday, September 4.

Kick off is at 8.45pm — an hour after Shabbat comes in.

JNF KKL Scotland have an event later this month for when the teams clash in the Euro 2020 play-off semi-final.

So far, more than 150 tickets have been sold for the package on Thursday March 26.

Guests will enjoy a meal at Giffnock Synagogue’s banqueting suite, as well as transport to and from the game at Hampden Park and seats in the main stand.

Final orders for this package — priced at £60 (adults) and £30 (children) — is March 19.

Guests are flying in specially for the event from America, Belgium and Israel, along with many from England crossing the border and several Israelis who work in Dublin.

“As there has to be a winner on the night, there could very well be extra-time and, naturally, we will take everyone back to the Giffnock Synagogue car park,” Stanley said.

“A capacity crowd of 50,000 is expected and there is no doubt that there will be pro-Palestinian protestors. Our three coaches will have special security.

“Apart from kicking a ball, we are looking after every other aspect of the evening.

“I have made special arrangements with the football authorities at Hampden, who have reserved the same seating section as they did for us in November, 2018, when the two teams last played.”

He added, sadly: “Because the September Nations League game is on a Friday night, we will not be running an event preceding the game.”
